In my last blog post, I discussed “Staging” a home that is for sale. I would now like to focus on two other areas of my work, Styling and Renewing.

How a home looks is, of course, a crucial factor in its value. If you think about most of the home reality shows on TV, they are the renovating shows that people are addicted to: “The Fixer Uppers,” “Love it or List It,” “Property Brothers,” just to name a few. These reality shows give people ideas for decorating and renewing a space. Styling and Renewing are ways that Designs By Starr can assist you in making you love your home and furnishings whether you are in the process of selling or not.

Styling is assessing what is crucial versus what is extraneous.

Styling

Styling is determining what are the most important furnishings to stay in your home to give it the look you desire. All else should be removed from the house, yet this concept goes way beyond the concepts of merely decluttering, cleaning, and manicuring the yard before the home is listed for sale. Styling is assessing what is crucial versus what is extraneous. It is my skill in determining that the right furniture and décor are placed in the right rooms. Questions I ask when decorating a room are: Do the rooms look spacious? Could the bookshelves or built-ins be arranged to look like a work of art complementing the room? Do these objects reflect the architecture of the home? Styling usually entails selecting complementary paint colors for your home. If you are a seller and you do not have a large budget for renovations, then Styling by Designs By Starr could be the perfect tool to make your house picture ready.

Renewing could save you thousands of dollars by making you fall in love with your home all over again…

Renewing

Now I want to touch on Renewing. Renewing is taking what a client already has in their home and assisting them with simple, inexpensive things they can add to give their house a whole new look. This trend is not discussed as commonly as Staging or Styling, but it is equally as valuable. Renewing could save you thousands of dollars by making you fall in love with your home all over again, and it might make you not want to sell after all. If you only knew how many times I have heard a client say, “I should have called you a long time ago, then I might not have built another house!” or “Why should I move now–it feels like a new home.” Clients who have their homes Renewed by Designs By Starr are some of my happiest clients–they rediscover the joy of their house and enjoy their spaces in ways they may have forgotten they could. Renewing can be a very uplifting experience!
